Biotechnological Processes Unit

Nowadays, the search for renewable raw materials for the production of biofuels and bioproducts is crucial for establishing a bio-based economy. In this context, the valorization of organic residues for the biotechnological production of different compounds appears as a very interesting alternative.

From the residual biomass (substrate), various fermentable molecules can be obtained, which are enclosed in the sugars platform and carboxylates platform. Both platforms can be used as a carbon source in fermentation processes for the production of bioproducts (which also includes energy vectors). Within the framework of this project, it will be possible to study fermentation processes in which yeasts are the key microorganisms. Process optimization will be performed by manipulating operational conditions in order to maximize process yields.
