Ramón Areces Foundation-Universidad Autónoma de Madrid Scholarships for students of the Masters of the Postgraduate Programme in Molecular Biosciences.
Academic year 2020-2021
Ramón Areces Foundation and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, with the aim of boosting the training of professional excellence and convinced of its importance for the quality of the scientific research in the area of Molecular Biosciences, offer Scholarships for students of the Masters of the Interfacultative Postgraduate Programme in Molecular Biosciences of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. The purpose of these grants is to facilitate the access to postgraduate training of graduate students with excellent academic background.
The Ramón Areces Foundation and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid offer scholarships for students of any one of the following Official Masters of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid:
- Master's Degree in Biomolecules and Cell Dynamics.
- Master's Degree in Molecular Biomedicine.
- Master's Degree in Biotechnology.
The number of scholarships for each category will be established according to the costs of the tuition fees for Official Masters Programmes in the academic year 2020-2021, still to be published by the Government of the Madrid Local Community. The call for the scholarship opens on July 20th and ends on September 10th, 2020.
The “Type A” scholarship covers:
- Tuition fees of the Master.
- Monthly payments of 1100 € corresponding to the period between the month after the student joins the Master (October 2020), to the month when the student submits his/her Final Dissertation (June or September 2021). 12 months maximum.
The “Type B” scholarship covers:
- Tuition fees of the Master.
Candidates must first apply for admission to at least one of the three Masters of the Programme in order to be able to apply for this scholarship. (remember that it is possible to apply to more than one Master of the Programme at the same time).
Starting on July 20th, 2020, the candidates will receive by e-mail, the instructions to apply for the scholarships through a specific online selection form where they will have to indicate in the appropriate section the type of grant requested (mode A or B).
Requirements of the Applicants
For Category A
1. Candidates must have applied for admission to any of the aforementioned Masters for the academic year 2020-2021. Enrolment shall be made, at the appropriate time, for the full course (60 ECTS).
2. Candidates must reside out of the Madrid Local Community (Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid) before the beginning of the Master (documentation establishing this point will be requested to the selected candidates).
Grants of category A are incompatible with any paid work, scholarship or financial assistance from another agency, except for travel grants or aid for short term research stays related to the Master´s studies.
For Category B
1. Candidates must have applied for admission to any of the abovementioned Masters in the academic year 2020-2021. Enrolment shall be made, at the appropriate time, for the full course (60 ECTS).
Type B grants are incompatible with any scholarship or financial aid obtained for the same purpose (covering the tuition fees of the Master). However, recipients could apply for fellowships or grants which do not cover the payment of tuition for the Master.
Applications for the two categories will be selected taking into account the applicant's weighted academic record in the degree that gives access to the postgraduate studies, and other academic achievements.
Applicants for the scholarship of category A that are not selected will be automatically incorporated to the list of requests for the type B scholarship in the position corresponding to the score.

Management of the Scholarships and Obligations of the Fellows
Scholarships will be handled by the Foundation of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (FUAM).
The grantee agrees to successfully perform the Master´s studies, and to remain associated to a research group that has been associated to the Graduate Program until the submission of his Final Dissertation.
For category A, the grantee must notify to the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid his/her postal address in Madrid as soon as possible after arrival.
Beneficiaries must also report any change of address or e-mail while enjoying the fellowship. If any of the studies performed by the beneficiary is published in a scientific journal, the grantee must specify in the publication the status of graduate fellow of the Fundación Ramón Areces-UAM.
If the grantee does not meet the above commitments, or any other conditions included in the grant, the Program reserves the right to proceed as it sees appropriate, and even claim a refund of the amounts received.
