Structure of Macromolecular Assemblies

Accurate transcription by multi-subunit RNA polymerases is essential for cell viability. While a wealth of structural information is available on individual components, a detailed description of the critical interactions that regulate gene expression is currently largely missing. Our group is expert in the structural characterization of eukaryotic RNA polymerases using X-ray crystallography and electron cryomicroscopy (cryo-EM). We aim to unveil the mechanisms that control transcription through the combined action of RNA polymerases and their regulatory transcription factors.
