POXVIRUS AND VACCINES
There is a need to develop vaccines against major diseases causing millions of deaths each year. In our lab we are focussing on prevalent human diseases, like those caused by infections (HIV, ebola, hepatitis C, malaria, leishmaniasis), cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, through the development of novel vaccines based on poxvirus vectors. We combined genetic, biochemical and immunological studies with preclinical and clinical trials to asses the validity of a vaccine candidate. Some of our vectors have entered human clinical trials in the HIV field. We are interested in translating knowledge from the bench to the clinic.
The candidate can select the most appropriate vaccine approach and get involved in studies addressing the specific problem.
