DESCRIPTION OF THE OFFER

 

1. Multi-enzymatic Processes with Thermophilic and Mesophilic Enzymes: Selective Heating of Thermophilic Enzymes.

 

2. Immobilization and stabilization of Phospholipase A1 for the Production of Omega-3 Fatty Acids.
Omega-3 fatty acids such as alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These fatty acids show important properties such as the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and positive effects on brain development. In this project, we will use phospholipases A1 (PLA1) that break the bond connecting the fatty acid in the sn-1 position with glycerol generating a lysoglycerolipid and a fatty acid. These enzymes will be immobilized and stabilized on macroporous supports. Furthermore, we will try to find a further improvement of the stability of the phospholipases by coating them with hydrophilic polymers such as PEI, dextran, PEG and PAA. The ultimate goal is to obtain highly active and stable phospholipase A1 biocatalysts for the production of omega-3 fatty acids.
