DESCRIPTION OF THE OFFER
In our lab we are invetigating how mitochondrial crosstalk with endolysosomal compartment controls cellular homeostasis and how mitochondrial dysfunction in certain tissues may account for systemic effects on the rest of the organism. Our central goals are (1) to investigate the therapeutic potential to increase lysosomal degradation in cells from patients with mitochondrial diseases (2) Mechanisms to prevent the acquisition of a program senescent cells with mitochondrial defect and its consequences in inflammation ( 3) Define which are the molecular mechanisms by which a mitochondrial failure exclusively in T lymphocytes contribute to development of age-associated diseases, such as a metabolic disorder or cardiovascular diseases. Using an ambitious and multidisciplinary strategy, that include in vivo and in vitro approaches , we aim to improve clinical interventions in age-related pathologies, with special attention to cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
This is a emergent lab that despite its small size it has already made important scientific contributions. It is currently composed by the principal investigator (PI), a technician and a predoctoral student,and the TFM student will be supervised personally by the PI.
